Upon opening, this struck me as more of a lighter bodied Shiraz than Pinot Noir. It's a gutsy type but throws out dark cherry, pomegranate and cranberry type aromas. It carries a swag of funk from the wild ferment and fifteen days on skins but is weighed down by a depth. Pinot has a sexy allure to it but this seems to have kept the dressing gown on over the top of the lingerie.
The third day it was open was when the more traditional traits we come to expect from Pinot were revealed. Bright cherry, some spice and red berries. Oak subtle, minimal if anything, but there was still a weight to the fruit.
It's a good wine but not one which I'd approach anytime soon. I'd be expecting this to be even better in a couple of years.
